About the Instructors

Kate Nash, Owner
Certified Black Belt NIA Instructor

Kate Nash

Kate Nash lived in London, England for many years. She worked in the entertainment business for 20 years, mainly in live theater. Kate’s movement background is based in many years of collaboration with physical theater companies, exploring the realms of expressive and improvised movement and dance styles. Always interested in self-awareness, expression and healing, Kate focused her energies on becoming a NIA Instructor and fulfilling her ambition to create a Center for a holistic lifestyle program which uses movement as it’s foundation.

Kate was introduced to The NIA Technique in 2000 and from her very first moment in the NIA dance she knew she had “come home.” “ I stood at the back of a room filled with bodies all moving to the most beautiful music. We floated, we skipped, we stretched, we played together in a way that I hadn’t done for many years. I remember saying to myself "Oh yes, this is it.”

Kate went on to train for her NIA Teacher’s License in 2001 in Santa Barbara, California. She began teaching in the fall of the same year in Ventura, California. Teaching alone for the first 3 years she saw clearly the need for such a program that NIA offers and decided to open her own NIA Center in Ventura. This is the first NIA Center in California, devoted primarily to the NIA Body of Work and Life-style Program.

Currently Kate teaches 7 Classic NIA classes at the Ventura NIA Center each week.

It was love at first dance! My introduction to NIA was through a community class led by Kate Nash, owner of the Ventura NIA Center. I’ve since completed my White and Blue Belts and teach four classes a week: two classes for seniors, two classes at the Pierpont Racquetball Club, and sub at the Ventura NIA Center.

My bodywork education includes certifications as a Fitness Specialist/Instructor and a Massage Therapist. I’m equally comfortable teaching/motivating all age groups and fitness levels to practice a healthy and active lifestyle. I love teaching and sharing my passion of NIA.

NIA Instructor

My academic preparation includes a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science, and a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science, both earned at Cal Poly Pomona, many moons ago. After completing an M.S. in Physical Education in 1985, I dedicated my career to teaching a wide variety of traditional fitness classes and outdoor recreation at the college and university level.

In 2006 while seeking a class to fulfill my professional development requirements, I discovered NIA with Kate Nash at the Ventura Nia Center. Instantly, I new I had found a new passion, and in July 2006 I completed my White Belt Intensive. Now as a certified instructor, NIA is one of my many passions, and part of my profession. Currently I teach PE39 Nia Fusion Fitness, as well as core conditioning specialties and outdoor adventure at Moorpark College. I can be found teaching at the Ventura NIA Center once a week and subbing as needed.

Other passions include underwater and nature photography, hiking, camping, volunteer work as a hiking guide for Channel Islands National Park, and taking in lost animals. Past physical endeavors include mini triathlons, 5 & 10k cross country running, and competitive equestrian events. It is apparent in her performance that Paulina moves from the heart. Paulina has been drawn to music and dance all her life and has participated in formal dance training since she was 6 years old. Over the last 15 years she's studied numerous styles of Belly Dance: anywhere from Egyptian and Tribal to Traditional Folk Dances from all over the Middle East. Paulina spent two years at UCSB studying and performing with the Middle Eastern Ensemble. It was here at UCSB she developed her love for the ancient art of Belly Dance. Paulina has participated and performed in many workshops and events locally and around the world, and continues to study the dance. In 1997 she began teaching her own classes. Her unique style is a fusion of Classical Egyptian & Modern Oriental Dance.

Paulina welcomes all levels of students to participate in her classes. Classes are currently running near Ojai on Mon eve & in Ventura on Thur eve. Check website PaulinaBellyDance.com for more information. With Paulina’s patience and passion for teaching, you too can experience the magic of belly dancing!
